How can I meet the Higher Education Entrance Qualification?
If you do not meet the general entry requirements, you must pass some basic subjects in Norwegian upper secondary school.

If you do not have 1 year of university education
If you have successfully completed upper secondary education but not completed 1 year of university education in your home country, you must pass the following subjects in Norwegian upper secondary school:
- Norwegian (393 hours, third-year level)
- English (140 hours)
- Mathematics (224 hours)
- Natural science (140 hours)
- History (140 hours)
- Social science (84 hours)
If you have not completed upper secondary school
If you have not completed upper secondary school, you can apply for the 3-year pre-university programme in upper secondary school. You may be exempted from some subjects if you have equivalent subjects from your secondary education in your home country. The secondary school will decide if this applies to you.
Are you 23 years or older?
If you are 23 years or older, you may fulfil the admission requirement on the basis of the 23/5 rule. This rule states that applicants that are
- 23 years or older and
- have a minimum of 5 years full time education and work experience and
- have passed the 6 basic subjects mentioned above
fulfil the general entrance requirements.
